Manfred Mauricio Quintanilla Hernández is a businessman currently living in Los Angeles, California, after going into exile from Mexico, where he is under arrest for false declarations. Quintanilla, who was the owner of the TUM transportation group, is involved in a dark web related to the criminal organization led by “El Mayo”.
His presence in the U.S. city has sparked interest, as he is believed to have fled to avoid prosecution in his home country.
In Mexico, Quintanilla was closely linked to Mauricio Soto Caballero, another businessman known to be involved in drug trafficking. According to journalist Tim Golden, Soto Caballero was allegedly in charge of receiving large sums of money from the “El Mayo” cartel in 2006 to finance Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador’s presidential campaign.
The relationship between both characters was consolidated through their participation in the company Arte y Creatividad Digital SA de CV, with which they obtained millionaire government contracts in the then Federal District, during the first years of the 21st century.
Today, Quintanilla is the subject of controversy for his links to illicit activities. His exile in Los Angeles is not only a refuge from Mexican justice, but also a sign of the power and connections he still enjoys. Governor Rocha Moya’s recent visit to the same city, just on the day of the arrest of a suspect, has generated speculation about possible connections between politics and illicit business, leaving the door open for more questions about the life and activities of this shadowy businessman.
